Meet Dana Richey
My name is Dana Richey, and I'll be your child's reading tutor for the upcoming school year. I am looking forward to guiding your student through a successful academic school year at Rock Creek. First, allow me to share a little about myself. Working at Rock Creek is my passion, and I have been assisting students of all ages for the last 5 years. For the last 2 years, I have been thoroughly trained and worked directly with a reading specialist who was certified in dyslexia.
The curriculum we used for middle and high school is The Barton Reading & Spelling System. It is a structured literacy program that is Orton-Gillingham influenced. Barton is a multi-sensory and sequential tutoring system for children or teenagers who struggle with spelling, reading, and writing due to dyslexia or a learning disability.
As a proud parent of two sons that have graduated from Rock creek and a daughter that currently attends, I feel strongly about the mission of the school. It was the perfect intervention my youngest son needed. When he first came to Rock Creek he was barely able to read and was falling behind. It was hard to watch him struggle. But, he graduated with honors and college credits. “If you can’t pay it back, pay it forward.” — Catherine Ryan Hyde.
It is my pleasure to encourage and work with your child.
